Plan to build funeral home

Plans for the new funeral home include the remodeling of the residence, a large brick structure on a spacious lot at the head of Linden Avenue, to include a reception room, offices, large chapel, and preparation room. The home will be equipped with every modern appliance and will be repainted, redecorated and appropriately furnished throughout. An electric elevator will be installed.

It is planned to build a circular driveway of sufficient length so that a large funeral cortege may be accommodated on the property.

Work of remodeling the building is already underway and the completed funeral home will be opened in the spring.

Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Osgood will reside at the home while Mr. And Mrs. Glenn Osgood and family will sell their residence on West Cass street and move into the present W.R. Osgood home.

W.R. Osgood came to St. Johns in 1900 and has since been a well known furniture dealer and mortician here. Ten years ago he moved his store from the building now occupied by the Iris theater to the old Allison theater block which he purchased and in which he has since been located. At the time of this transfer he took his son, Glenn, into the business with him, and the firm name then became W.R. Osgood & Son.

Mr. Osgood states that he has several applications to rent his store building and that a new tenant will probably move in as soon as he can close out his furniture stock.
